June 25th--Cheat!

Everybody is allowed to cheat a little bit when they're on a diet, aren't they? Today I had a slice of pizza. And you know what? Forbidden food such as that tastes so much better!

I've actually read that one of the main reasons so many diets fail is because people deprive themselves too much and then their resolve crumbles. I haven't had pizza in a few weeks but you know what? It's easier for me to stick to my diet if I allow myself a little something special every now and then. I don't even have the craving for more junk food after eating it.

June 23rd--An Introduction to My Weight Loss Goals and Program

The main reason for starting this journal is to keep track of my weight loss. A few weeks ago, I was at my highest weight ever--205 lbs. I'm on medication and throughout the years I have put on a lot of weight. When I was in high school, my weight was pretty much normal for someone my height--5'4''. I also have a large frame and people don't tend to think I weight as much as I do, which is a good thing, but I still definitely need to lose weight. I'm not going to blame it all on the meds, though. A lot of it was my fault by drinking a lot of soda, eating foods high in carbs and sugar, and not exercising.

Something in me panicked about three weeks ago. I'm going to be 30 in October and I thought to myself, If I don't lose the weight now, it'll be so much harder to do it in ten years, after I turn 40. My younger sister recommended this diet that she was on, through a website called Advocare. It's very expensive, but I thought I'd give it a try for a few months, so I could lose about 50 lbs. What I ordered was something called a 24-Day Challenge. It came with a 10-day herbal cleanse, energy drinks, pills that help you burn fat and control your appetite, and meal replacement shakes. About four days before my products arrived, I decided to also cut back on my portion sizes, give up soda and ice cream, and start eating healthier foods such as fruits and vegetables. I also started eating things with a lot of protein in it, to keep me feeling fuller longer.

Days 1-10 I had to drink a fiber drink, take herbal cleanse pills, and pro-biotic pills. I also bought Slim Fast shakes and Special K and Atkins Advantage protein meal and bar shakes. I made sure to drink a lot of water and eat more fruits and veggies. Within that period I managed to make it down to about 191 lbs.

Today is Day 14--I have to take certain pills from the challenge packet I bought 30 minutes before I eat and some when I eat. For breakfast I use the Meal Replacement Shakes I use with the Challenge. For lunch and dinner I eat stuff that I bought on my own (the protein bars, Slim Fast or Atkins shakes). I've been trying to eat only home cooked chicken or fish (no red meat) at dinner. Some nights I'll have a Weight Watchers Smart Ones TV dinner or a Healthy Choice TV dinner. They are pretty low calorie, but the sodium count is extremely high so I wouldn't recommend eating them all the time.

Anyway, I stepped on the scale first thing this morning and I saw I was 187. It's best to weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you eat. It's the most accurate because your weight fluctuates throughout the day. (For example, I could step on the scale later, after I ate, and it would probably say 190). I'm also a member of a gym, though I haven't been there in several months. I do plan to go back, very soon though.

Is it hard for me to stick to this diet? Surprising no. I drink mainly just water now. I get my sweet fix by the protein bars and shakes. The best thing about this is I have much more energy and my mood has greatly improved! I'm not nearly as irritable or as tired as I was eating foods with lots of sugar and carbs. People have always say what you eat greatly influences how you feel. I never really believed it until I tried it!
